Why I can’t watch TV
“Anymore”, I guess, should have been added to the title. It’s too late to fix it now. It will require me to scroll up, click somewhere, type it in, and then come back here. Too much, much too much, effort. Meh!
Paranormal Stuff
There’s been some strange (very odd) stuff happening at home.
As well. I should have added that, separated by a comma in the previous sentence, but the Milk of Extreme Laziness sloshes through my veins, and so, so be it; let it stand there, all alone in its ungrammatical splendour (splendor, if USian), or lack thereof.
Two for the price of one!
And, in the spirit of laziness, you, you lucky things, are getting two for the price of one. Or none, because this is free to read and ignore! For I shall cover both topics right here.
You will see, as I did, that there be some connection, some weird cause and effect thingy.
Para normal, you know?
Part 1 – TV Shows
I will restrict this to shows, modern shows, because I don’t even want to touch the topic of news.
The word should be in quotes, because it has lost all meaning, like the word like, as used in social media. Those two issues, topics, if you will, are being reserved for future use. So there!
Wokeism
Oh yeah! You thought I wasn’t going to go there! I am woke, as woke as can be. I certainly don’t care which gods or godesses you hold dear, which adult (consenting!) you wish to live with. And, I do believe, that genetic abnormalities are a distinct possibility, so the question of gender is a long, involved and quite complicated, requiring knowledge of science, something a lot of people have little or no knowledge of.
BUT!
Yep, there’s a “but”!
You’re not going to change people’s way of thinking by force-feeding them from a hose!
Liberals really need to slow down and stop being so effing condescending!
Fear!
Those people are already scared, scared of their parents, their neighbours, their siblings, their governments, their spiritual and political leaders. They’re scared of their own freaking shadows!
You cannot thrust everything down their throat at the same time! They’ll gag and choke and go away remembering only the trauma of the force-feeding. They feel uncomfortable dealing with the process of thought required, they’re uncomfortable with facing their own inconsistencies, they’re uncomfortable dealing with confronting the fact that may be accused of “sin” and, thus, be damned for eternity.
For that’s what they grew up with. That’s what they have been led to believe.
They’ve also been trained to give up their own rational brain and to believe only what the dear leader is telling them.
So what?
What’s that got to do with you not being able to watch TV, you ask?
Everything! I blame the studios, the production companies and the barrage of wokeism they are subjected to via social media. (That bane of modern life!)
So they’ve taken to ramming everything into everything!
And therein lies my issue!
Let’s take a couple of examples, shall we? We’ll examine a couple of new shows to demonstrate what I’m ranting about.
Killing Eve
So, a young lady, an assassin. Trained to perfection, to kill without remorse, without any let or hindrance. She has a boss. Boss and Assassin have multiple disagreements. Assassin has boss at her mercy in multiple episodes, however, her training isn’t good enough to actually get rid of him without, you know, that remorse thingy.
Multiple episodes, must have!
There’s another lady, and government Agent, who is charged with finding the Assassin lady and bring her to justice. Agent has a permanently worried expression on her face, that never changes. There ain’t no smile, there ain’t no scowl, there ain’t no frown, there ain’t no curling of the lips. Eyebrows are permanently raised. Agent’s expression never changes, no matter what the situation.
She has the Assassin almost in her grasp a few times, but each time, in every episode the Assassin escapes.
Why? Because the Agent lady has “feelings” for the Assassin, of a sexual nature.
In itself, not a bad premise, but the skirmishes are absolutely ridiculous in that all the training and expertise fails to accomplish their basic goals. All of them are incompetent!
I gave up watching after three or four of the same stupid episodes, where there is “action”, guns, fisticuffs, and so on and so forth.
Brainless, insipid slop!
But hey! Blood and gore, assassin dancing gleefully as she cuts throats, shoots guns, explosions, cars racing on streets. Action! Action! ACTION!
The Big C
I watched more than a few of the episodes. It started well. I had high hopes that we’d see a treatment of a Lady battling cancer and how her life moves through the phases.
Disappointing!
The Big C takes a back seat to the need to cater to every conceivable liberal talking point out there.
Estranged husband: Usual drama. Who cheated first? Is the relationship on or off?
Adolescent son: Usual USian high school issues, you know, sex and alcohol. That’s all they know. Adolescent is failing grades, because, you know, more focused on sex. No, not because he has trauma over his mother’s cancer! What were you thinking? Doh!
Hippy brother: Ah, here we go then, the anti-establishment, corporation bashing. Lip service to the Cause. Loads of dialogues about corporate enshittification!
Learned a new word a few months ago, maybe last year, or the year before?
Not important when you learned it!
Yeah you’re right!
Then they added:
Hippy brother has sex with Lady’s best friend, who gets pregnant, and then guest star has done her bit. So off she goes out of the show. Contracts, you know. I missed what happens to the baby. Must have been distracted by something really boring, or interesting, on Instagram or Threads.
Then, the ‘fat girl’, so we can counter body-shaming.
The ‘black girl’ (same one, BOGO Free!), so we can counter the racism.
A number of guest stars, appear in utterly un-inspiring roles, with no meaning, no depth, no relevance to the story line. An 80 year-old who plays doctor, as he did in a long running show based in the Korean war. (Digression: Word wanted me to capitalize the word “war”. Effing useful style notes!)
Then, the best friend, and another famous actress, called Susan Sarandon, whose part in the thing I completely missed. I glimpsed her in one shot. There are others. I’m too lazy to tell you about them.
But hey, we can get multiple episodes out of this, right? Let’s go!
Me –
So there I was on a September morning. Looking for something to watch. Must have tried like a thousand channels, wasn’t a show that I left unexplored. Na na naaa, na na naaa, na na na yeah yeah YEAH!
(Sorry Uriah Heep got me there… not the Dickens character! The band!)
And then… dramatic chords.
There appeared an Oscar winning movie. One I had seen. Based on a play I had read when I was an impressionable lad of 20 something.
One of the best opening scenes I’ve read.
Old man on darkened stage, starts talking, telling us about his life, how he had dedicated himself to his talent, prayed everyday to God, to give him the gift, the skill, the talent, which he would then use in His praise, to honour God every living breathing moment
As the light’s slowly go up, we see him morph into what he used to be. Respected at the court of the emperor for his talent. And then…
A young, irreverent upstart, shows up, shows him up. And what has God done???
He’s given that irreverant upstart all the talent. Unspeakable amount of talent! To that young whippersnapper, who has never prayed to God! Him! Instead of the old man!!!
So, yeah, it’s about revenge. The movie has some great music!!!
Paranormal Stuff
I only watched about 30 minutes of it, before it became absolutely necessary for me to go down and find my personal copy of the play. For I needed to read that opening scene, read of the “betrayal” that the old man, his revenge.
I went down, picked up the book and went up to read. But I didn’t, I went up to take a shower, and sort of forgot about it. It lay next to my bed all day. As I went about eating, walking, thinking and doing the other things I seem to do, I said to myself, “You know, write a review! Update The SloWord Review! It’s been a while!”
And I replied to myself, “What an absolutely brilliant idea!”
But that night…
The book was gone. Missing from my bedside table! I thought I had taken it down to my office so I could work on the book report. Nope!
I interrogated the other denizens of the house. I enlisted their services to hunt every room, climb every mountain, so to speak.
Well, there it is. Nowhere to be found.
If that isn’t some ghostly shit happening, I don’t know! Here I was, good intentions and all, and the thing was gone!
Your Job
I want your input.
What do you think happened? Where did it go? Which ghostly, or ghastly creature took that away?
Also:
Tell me what play I’m talking about!!! Important!!!
CLUE: The young man with the talent is real, and his output is a personal favorite of mine!
And this is his favorite dessert!
