Unknown Caller is a short film. I wanted to share with you details of this film because it marks the debut for Indra Dattagupta nee Sharma. (Aha, you say!)
And it’s a big debut, as you will see below!
What’s it about, you ask?
The story
Maya, a 60-year-old mother, marks ten years since her son Amar’s suicide on what would have been his 28th birthday. Trapped in a cycle of guilt and grief, she maintains a shrine to his memory while her sister urges her to “move on.”
During a violent storm at 4:25 AM, Maya receives a wrong-number call from Neal, someone in crisis contemplating suicide. What begins as a misdirected call to a suicide hotline becomes a profound conversation between two souls in pain.
Through a 2-hour conversation, Maya shares her story of loss while helping Neal find reasons to live. In saving Neal, Maya begins her own journey toward healing.
As Maya shares her story of loss and regret, she unknowingly saves Neal’s life while beginning to heal her own. The film explores how helping others can be the path to healing ourselves.
Explores Maya’s complex journey of parental grief and finding purpose in pain.
The Writer / Producer
Indra Dattagupta (see IMDB) has acted in movies, and has been working away at writing stories. She is based out of Atlanta, GA.
She also happens to be my sister.
Unknown Caller is her first movie as Writer / Producer, and it is receiving many accolades. Some of these are shown below (there seems to be more being added everyday… I can’t keep up!)
If you’d like to see it, it is being screened at The Manhattan Film Festival 2026.
My personal best wishes to Indra, and hoping there’s more coming soon, movies, stories AND accolades!
