#Oscars

So we had the annual, actually, the 87th Annual, dress-up-and-make-political-speeches-thank-god-my-family-the-cast-and-crew-for-an-amazing-film extravanganza. It was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and featured a confusing opening song-and-dance. Well produced it may have been, but it was confusing. To me, at least, and my opinion is all that matters to me. Two reasons I stopped watching it:…

#CWC15 – Ind v SA

Any dry throats and thumping hearbeats at the start of the game became dryer and thumpier as Rohit left early. With that, the game was afoot, as Holmes used to say, or so we are told by Conan Doyle. This was the other marquee matchup in Pool B, ranking in importance second only to the Ind v Pak affair. ( for Indians and Pakistanis anyway..)

NEVER TRUST A CRICKETER

< A little comic relief before the India vs South Africa match at #WC2015. This was sent to me by a lovely lady who shall remain nameless. Exceptions may be made in the case of those willing to send me a US$10 and a SASE.>

Come all ye fair young maidens and harken unto me,
Never trust a cricketer, whoever he may be. (more…)

WC2015 – Eng vs NZ

What an absolute disaster! For England. To be fair to England, I did not expect them to win, for I do not expect them to do well in this World Cup. Of course, history tells us that the last time England made it to the final was in 1992, in Australia and of course England fans will take heart from this history lesson. Back then, England won 5 out of 8 matches, with the round robin against Pakistan yielding no result when they were well ahead. Interesting, they failed to (more…)

<This article first appeared in sloword.wordpress.com. Given the abject surrender by England yesterday, I thought it may be pertinent to read what I had written almost a year ago. You can read the original here>

I read this article by Jonathan Agnew and was struck by it’s smarmy tone. As an apology for Peter Moores‘s reinstatement it fails convincingly. About the only thing the article does is re-iterate the infantile regurgitations of team, team player and togetherness. It has all the hallmarks of those (more…)

WC2015 – Two big matches already

It’s been a strange first week at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 edition. Two of the biggest matches have already been completed. Australia beat England, to no one’s surprise and then India beat Pakistan, to no Indian’s surprise. I must confess a slight feeling of doubt. Oh no, not about England losing, but about India winning.

England have clearly not yet learned the art / science behind limited overs cricket despite a healthy investment in coaching staff. For one, (more…)

How to bat

Your way through this blog. It's really very simple. Check the offside menu (if right handed) or leg side menu (if left handed). All posts are categorized as either: Opinions: Where I talk about radical new ideas for improving the game, selling it in new markets, provide personally viewpoints on players, rules, administrators…

Choice is good

The question of choice is always a good one. Should one have choice? Yes. How much choice should one have? Now, that's a good question that cannot easily be answered. Many years ago, I remember Mad Magazine had this piece about the guy trying to buy cigarettes in a store. "Give me a…
